ENT is an obligatory subject of the classical medical daily study at the First Medical Faculty Charles University Prague. The course will cover extensive topics over a period of two week. ENT is set in order in the 4th year of ordinary study, i.e. the 7th or 8th semesters of study, and the students pass the block by obtaining a credit and then undergoing a regular rigorous examination.

THE CONTENTS AND SUMMARY OF ENT STAY

Subject education gives the undergraduates a hand in orientation in various ENT diseases, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, therapy and shows possible complications of these diseases and their adequate therapy. The undergraduate gets a picture of the position of the ENT speciality and its continuity with other medicine branches. He becomes acquainted with common and special methods of examination used in ENT. The education deals with problems of oncology, endoscopy, otology, otosurgery, cochlear implant surgery, rhinology, thyroid gland surgery, plastic surgery of the head and neck, audiology, neurootology, alergology, pediatric otolaryngology, emergency medicine regarding the region of the head and neck, management of life threatening situations, basic care of patients with grave sickness in the ENT region. ·

  • CONDITIONS FOR THE CREDIT

  1. 280 Credit points: on the first day of the course you will be handed a "stazovy list" or the stage list, this list contains the names of the various lectures, practical training and procedures that you can take part in during the two week period. each of these tasks has an alloted number of credit points. the aim is to accumulate a total of 280 (or more) points. this will require some strategical planning on your part but if you attend all the lectures and take part in a surgey, you will be done in 8 study days (i.e. wednesday of the 2nd week).

  • THE NUTS AND BOLTS

  1. Signing up for the operating theater: each of you will have an opportunity to scrub-in for a surgery. there are two timings available- one at 8.30 and the other at 11.30. only 3 students can sign-up for any one time.
  2. Student ID: you will be required to wear the ISIC badge when you are in the wards.
  3. No eating or drinking is allowed in the lecture hall.

  • SIGNING-UP FOR THE EXAM

  1. You can sign-up for the exam on the 2nd wednesday of the course via the SIS.

  2. the exam will only consist of an oral part.
