The e-mail:The following text is a copy of an email sent by prof. samal regarding the nuclear medicine block:
Dear colleagues,
In the next few weeks, you come to visit the Department of Nuclear Medicine for a week course. Please find details of the course on the Department web site (
http://unm.lf1.cuni.cz - English version).
As you may already know, you can do nuclear medicine exam on Friday, the last day of the course. The only requirement is credit that is issued automatically if there is full presence in the course (for short absences there are alternative arrangements).
I would like to invite you to apply for Friday exam for several reasons. In my opinion, it is the best and most efficient way to use a week time spent with us. Taking this opportunity, you can save a lot of your time in the future.
If you follow the lessons and repeat presented subjects in the afternoons, on Thursday night you will know a lot and final preparation for the exam is easy. On the other hand, if you decide to postpone the exam, your concentration in the course may be lower, you may forget part of what you learned in the course and need to start again from scratch. It is a double loss of time - in the course itself and then learning everything once more.
I am often asked to postpone the exam after a weekend following the course. Although it may look easy, we don't do it because your learning for nuclear medicine exam would interfere with another course. Mixing of the 2 courses this way is a poor practice and additional loss of time.
Please consider the following: why not to start learning nuclear medicine a weekend BEFORE the course instead of intensive learning on weekend AFTER the course? The cost is the same. There is a lot of data on the web site so that you can easily start anytime. If you look at it before you come to the department, your learning will be much more efficient.
Please think of it twice - taking your exam at the end of the course is strongly recommended. Providing you accept the course as a week of intensive learning, your success in the exam is very likely. After appropriate preparation, success rate is as high as 80%. A reward is clearly quite a lot of time saved for other activities.
To apply for exam on Friday in the end of the course, please contact Mrs. Kabesova or Mrs. Mlcochova during the course while you are visiting the department - please note that you can't apply for this extra date through SIS. As regards the number of students that can apply for exam, there is enough capacity for the whole group.
If you cannot apply for exam at the end of the week for any reason, there will be enough dates for ordinary exam in June. As an exception, it is possible to apply for extraordinary terms also in another time after individual agreement. Usually we accept written applications if there are good reasons for such arrangement and your request is well supported by them.
Thank you for kindly considering the above information and your correct decision :-).
Looking forward to meet you in nuclear medicine course, with best wishes
Martin Samal (Head of the department)
The examination:I asked the secretary about the format of the exam and this is what she had to say:
- Each student will be examined by both professors, questions 1-13 by prof. Samal and questions 14-24 by prof. Kubinyi.
- Examo-meter: About 6 students will be examined an hour.
If you haven't already done so, please put your name down in the secretary's book!
(Prof Samal is aware of the problem we are having accessing the lectures on the department's webpage. He will inform the technicians so that they can be accessable!)The course: The teaching starts
at 8am (POZOR! rumour has it that
if you are late the teacher will lock the door!).
Lessons are held at the
Dept. of Nuclear Medicine (
ground floor of
pathophysiology building - as you walk into the building, take the corridor to the left and go to the last room on the left).
Attendance is very strict -
no absences are allowed! But if a student needs to miss a day of teaching, this has to be excused in advance and the missed material covered that day will have to be made up for in written form.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR LAB COATS!!!!!!!
